why scouting?

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.

For over a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Scouts BSA believes — and, through over a century of experience,
knows — that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.  http://www.scouting.org/About.aspx

WHY Troop 1?

The Pack, Troop 1 (boys), and Troop 1G (girls) meet throughout the school year on Thursdays 7:00PM - 8:30 (Cubs 7-8PM, boys and girls) in Manhattan at Holy Name Church (214 West 97th Street, between Amsterdam and Broadway).

During the summer we take the troop on the road for summer camp and high adventure . In the past we have made trips to scout reservations in Catalina Island off California; the Rocky Mountains in Colorado; the Catskills in New York; the Adirondacks in New York; the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico; Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland; and Cub World in Alpine, New Jersey.

We welcome children, adolescents, and their families (of every race, creed, and national origin, and orientation) to join us on Thursdays, at Troop One, in our goal of having our scouts achieve the BSA ideal of becoming contributing citizens, individuals of good character, and examples in their community of sound personal and moral fitness. This is accomplished by being active in events in NYC and monthly camping trips and ski trips throughout the school year as well as our summer expeditions.
